Catherine O’Hara, the legendary Canadian-American actress, comedian, and Emmy Award-winning star known for her unforgettable performances in Schitt’s Creek, Home Alone, Beetlejuice and more, has died at the age of 71. 

Her passing was confirmed in a statement released Friday by her agency, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), marking the end of a remarkable five-decade career that endeared her to audiences around the world.

O’Hara’s death occurred at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness, according to the statement from CAA. Further details about the circumstances of her passing have not yet been disclosed.

Born on March 4, 1954, in Toronto, Ontario, Catherine O’Hara began her illustrious career in comedy during the 1970s as part of the famed Second City troupe and later as an original cast member of the influential sketch show Second City Television (SCTV). Her early work on SCTV helped launch the careers of several comedy legends and earned her industry recognition, including an Emmy Award for writing.
