Search Group in Mexico Investigates Anonymous Tip in Case of Missing Arizona Woman Nancy Guthrie
NOGALES, Mexico — A volunteer organization dedicated to locating missing persons in Mexico launched a search effort this week after receiving an anonymous tip suggesting that an elderly Arizona woman who was abducted from her home may have been buried in an unmarked grave near the U.S.-Mexico border.
According to Ramona Guadalupe Ayala Ortiz, head of the search collective Buscando Corazones Nogales, the group received information on Wednesday regarding the whereabouts of Nancy Guthrie, an 84-year-old Tucson resident who was reported missing after being abducted from her home.
The tip alleged that Guthrie may have been buried in a remote area near the border city of Nogales, prompting volunteers to conduct a search in hopes of uncovering evidence that could assist investigators.
“We received an anonymous report indicating that a woman matching Nancy Guthrie’s description could be located in an unmarked grave near the border region,” Ayala Ortiz said. “Our responsibility is to investigate every credible lead, no matter how difficult or uncertain.”
Guthrie’s disappearance has drawn significant concern on both sides of the border. Authorities say the elderly woman was taken from her Tucson residence, located more than 70 miles north of Nogales, under circumstances that remain under investigation.
Volunteer search groups such as Buscando Corazones Nogales have become increasingly active in northern Mexico, where they often assist in locating missing persons and identifying clandestine burial sites. The organizations frequently work alongside families and authorities when official investigations face challenges or limited resources.
