Actor Dennis Waterman Death News aged 74 - How Did Dennis Waterman Die?
Actor Dennis Waterman, who starred in the TV series Minder, The Sweeney and New Tricks, has died at the age of 74. Waterman, best known for his role as bodyguard Terry McCann in ITV's Minder, has had a career in the show business that extends over 60 years.
He first became known as a tough cop George Carter in The Sweeney, then in the BBC's New Tricks he played Gerry Standing, a retired police officer who got involved as part of a cold unit. A statement from Waterman's family said: "We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Dennis died very peacefully in hospital in Spain on Sunday afternoon with [his wife] Pam by his side. The family kindly requests that our privacy be respected during a very difficult time .
Waterman also had television roles on ITV's Where The Heart Is and the BBC's The Canterbury Tales and Moses Jones. He was also known for singing the theme songs for many of his shows and was uploaded by David Walliams in Little Britain.
He has also appeared in productions of Edward Bond's Twelfth Night, Saved at the Royal Court Theater and Sergeant Musgrave's Dance. He was very interested in music and had successes on the charts in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Waterman was born in London in 1948, the youngest of nine children. Educated at the Corona Theater School, he began his career in the show business at a young age. After a role for the Children's Film Foundation, he was invited to join the Royal Shakespeare Company at the age of 12.
